Connect Backblaze for video storage
In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the simple steps to connect Callaba with Backblaze.
Video files are usually quite large, so attaching cloud storage it's a great way to address that.
Most popular use cases:
- Move recorded videos to Backblaze for long-term storage and free up space for new recordings.
- Use stored recordings as the source for live broadcasts directly from Backblaze.
- Archive all your video content in object storage, ensuring it’s always accessible when needed.
- Stream OTT or VOD content directly from Backblaze with optimized delivery and fast performance.
0. Before you begin
For this tutorial, you will need :
▶ Callaba software
⬇️ Get Callaba on AWS Marketplace | 📖 Guide: How to launch
⬇️ Get a self-hosted license | 📖 Guide: How to install self-hosted
▶ Backblaze account
1. Log in to Backblaze and create a bucket
Start by logging into your Backblaze account (www.backblaze.com).
If you don’t already have a bucket (a storage container in Backblaze), create a new one.
To create bucket, navigate to Buckets.
Give your bucket a name, adjust settings and save your bucket.
Copy the endpoint URL - we'll need it soon.
2. Create an Application Key
Once you’ve created your bucket, you’ll also need an Application key to grant Callaba access.
To do this, go to the Application Keys section in Backblaze.
Click "Add a New Application Key" to create a new key.
You can also restrict the key’s access to the specific bucket you’re using (this is optional but a good security practice).
Save your key information
After generating the key, Backblaze will show you two important pieces of data:
- Key ID
- Application Key
You’ll only see the Application Key once, so copy it somewhere safe before continuing. Without it, you’ll need to generate a new key.
3. Configure storage in Callaba
Now, switch to your Callaba dashboard. Navigate to the Storage section and click Add New.
Name your storage.
Enter the Bucket URL.
To build this, take the Backblaze endpoint address, add https:// at the beginning, and put /your bucket’s name at the end (with a forward slash).
Like this: https://endpoint-address/your bucket name).
EXAMPLE: https://s3.us-west-002.backblazeb2.com/green-apple
Paste in your Key ID and Application Key from Backblaze.
Optional : Metadata database settings
Callaba allows you to set up a separate metadata database in the Advanced Settings section.
This step is optional, but it’s a great way to make your storage setup even more secure.
4. Save and test
Click Save to finalize the setup. Your Backblaze bucket is now connected to Callaba!
To test the connection, go to the File manager section in Callaba and try copying a file to your Backblaze bucket to confirm that everything is working as expected.
By following these steps, you’ve successfully connected your Backblaze cloud storage with Callaba.
This integration ensures that your recorded files are securely stored for the long term, keeping your storage space optimized and ready for future recordings.
This is the end of this tutorial.
