Stream to Youtube with Enhanced RTMP

Oct 21, 2024

Streaming your content on YouTube using Enhanced RTMP with HEVC encoding provides superior video clarity and performance.

Here's how to set up Enhanced RTMP re-streaming to Youtube in Callaba.

1. Go to Restreaming section

Click "Add New"

This will open up interface where you can configure your re-stream’s details.

Set up your re-stream

Name your re-stream

Input Type: specify your input type and select your input source

Stream Destination: select “Enhanced YouTube RTMP.”

This option is optimized for streaming on YouTube using the Enhanced RTMP protocol, which supports HEVC for better compression and quality.

RTMP Stream Key: copy and paste your Stream Key from Youtube Studio

This key is crucial as it links your Callaba's output to your YouTube channel.

Save your settings

Your re-stream setup is now complete, and you’re ready to broadcast.

Start streaming using your streaming software, and your enhanced stream will begin making its way to YouTube.

Benefits of using Enhanced RTMP

Streaming to YouTube using Enhanced RTMP offers several advantages over regular RTMP, making it a superior choice for broadcasters looking to improve the quality and efficiency of their live streams. Here are the key benefits:

Higher Quality Video

Enhanced RTMP supports the HEVC (H.265) codec, which is more efficient than the commonly used AVC (H.264) codec in regular RTMP. HEVC can deliver significantly better video quality at the same bitrate, or the same quality at a lower bitrate. This means clearer, sharper video for viewers, even at lower bandwidths.

Lower Bandwidth Consumption

Due to the efficiency of the HEVC codec, Enhanced RTMP requires less bandwidth to deliver high-quality video. This is particularly beneficial for creators who stream high-resolution content, such as 1080p or 4K, as it reduces the strain on their network and can help avoid buffering issues for viewers.

Improved Latency

Enhanced RTMP can offer improvements in latency, making the stream more synchronous.

This is crucial for live events or interactions where real-time engagement with viewers, such as Q&A sessions or live gaming, is important.

Adaptive Bitrate Streaming

While regular RTMP does support some level of adaptivity, Enhanced RTMP is better at handling adaptive bitrate streaming.

It provides smoother viewer experiences across various device types and network conditions. This adaptability ensures that the stream adjusts in quality dynamically to match the viewer's bandwidth, minimizing buffering and playback interruptions.

Cost Efficiency

For broadcasters who pay for bandwidth usage, using Enhanced RTMP with HEVC can be more cost-effective.

As HEVC compresses video more efficiently, it uses less bandwidth than standard RTMP, potentially lowering the costs associated with streaming high-quality video.
