Nov 20, 2024

This guide will walk you through the steps to test an NDI® HDR video in Callaba. Follow these simple instructions to set up and test your NDI® HDR workflow.

1. Get your HDR video

For this tutorial, we used a 4K HDR test video downloaded from a 4K video website (4kmedia.org).

You can use any HDR video file of your choice or you can use an HDR camera to stream to an SRT server.

Upload your file to Callaba

Once you have your video file, upload it to Callaba using the file manager:

  1. Go to the File Manager in Callaba.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. Select your video file and upload it.

After uploading, you should see your file listed in the file manager.

2. Create an SRT server

Next, set up an SRT server to receive the video file as a stream:

Navigate to the SRT Server section in Callaba.

Click "Add New"

Name your SRT server, change ports if you want to, then save it.

Port : This port is used for sending the stream to the SRT Server.

Receiver Port : This port is used for receiving the stream from the SRT Server.

Save your SRT Server.

This server will act as the receiving point for the video stream.

3. Create a restream

Now, let's turn our HDR video file into an active SRT video stream and send it to the SRT Server.

Go to the Restreaming section.

Click "Add New"

Name your restream.

Input type : select File

Then set your uploaded HDR video file as the input.

Stream Destination: SRT Server

SRT Server: Set the destination to the SRT server you created in the previous step.

Save your restream.

Start the re-stream to send the video to the server.

At this point, your video file is being streamed to the SRT server.

4. Convert the SRT stream to NDI®

With the SRT stream running, you can now turn SRT stream into an create an NDI® device.

Navigate to the NDI® Adapter section.

Click "Add New"

Set the SRT server as the input source.

Source Input: SRT Server

SRT Server: Select your SRT Server

For the output, create a new NDI® device and give it a name (e.g., “NDI HDR Test”).

Target Output: NDI® output device

NDI® Device Name: create a name

Save the configuration and start the NDI® adapter.

Your SRT stream is now being converted into an NDI® stream.

In the NDI discovered devices section you can now see your new NDI® device detected by Callaba.

5. Test the NDI HDR stream

Finally, test your NDI® HDR stream:

Open your NDI®-compatible software or hardware, such as NDI Monitor.

Look for your newly created NDI® device in the list of available devices.

Select it to watch the video stream.

You should now see the HDR video displayed via the NDI® device.

This is the end of our tutorial.
